Help Light Up Washington Boulevard for the Holidays

Something special could be coming to the corner of Washington and West Boulevards this holiday season.

Re/creation Cafe, working with CD10 and neighboring communities, is organizing an effort to transform the enormous pine trees at this intersection into illuminated holiday trees—creating a festive gateway where Wellington Square, Lafayette Square, Victoria Park, and the West Washington corridor come together.

The plan calls for thousands of lights throughout the tree canopies, turning the mature pines into giant living Christmas trees. The professional installation would include lighting, installation, maintenance throughout the season, and removal after the holidays.

CD10 has already committed $10,000 toward the project, and one tree is funded. Now the goal is to raise enough community support to light them all.

Re/creation is contributing electrical power, and other local partners are contributing elements of the display. Neighbors, businesses, and neighborhood organizations are invited to help make this a new Mid City holiday tradition.

One tree is happening. Let’s light them all!
