3/10/26 General Body Meeting Recap

March 10, 2026 General Body Meeting

Thank you to everyone who joined WSIA’s March General Body Meeting. The evening focused on hearing directly from residents about what they value most about Wellington Square and the priorities they would like WSIA to pursue. Residents also learned how WSIA committees turn neighborhood ideas into projects, with examples including the HPOZ effort, restoration of the Wellington Road gate, and community social events.

The heart of the meeting was a series of small-group discussions in which neighbors shared ideas, concerns, and opportunities for improving the Square. Across the groups, several consistent priorities emerged:

  • Safety & Traffic: reducing speeding and traffic, improving lighting, addressing theft and crime, parking concerns, and unsafe sidewalks.
  • Beautification & Maintenance: cleaner Washington Boulevard sidewalks, improvements to 23rd Street and the freeway wall, better-maintained medians, trash and dog-waste reduction, and preservation of historic street features.
  • Communication: regular website updates, greater transparency, neighborhood resource sharing, and stronger block-level communication.
  • Community Connection: more gatherings, block parties, yard sales, neighborhood activities, and opportunities for residents to get involved.
  • Neighborhood Character & Preservation: maintaining Wellington Square’s diversity, historic character and distinctive sense of place, supporting the farmers market, and thoughtfully addressing development pressures.

Residents repeatedly described Wellington Square as a peaceful, diverse, caring and close-knit community—a “village,” an “oasis,” and a “hidden gem.”

The feedback from the meeting will help guide the WSIA Board and committees as we identify priorities, pursue near-term projects, and plan longer-term neighborhood initiatives. Residents interested in helping are encouraged to participate in a WSIA committee and stay involved in upcoming meetings and activities.
